Server InfrastructureWe procure, design, install and configure traditional on premise physical and virtual server solutions

Implementing a virtual server environment to replace physical servers is fast becoming the normal way to replace ageing hardware. Why?

Virtualisation is one of those words, like ‘cloud’ that gets thrown around as if everyone already knows what it is. In computing terms, virtualization refers to the act of creating a virtual (rather than actual) version of something. When we refer to virtualisation we typically mean hardware virtualization or platform virtualization.

What does this mean? We create a virtual machine that acts like a real computer, with a real operating system. In hardware virtualization, the host machine is the actual machine on which virtualization takes place, and the guest machine is the virtual machine. One host machine can run many virtual machines.

How is this possible? Today’s server hardware is so incredibly powerful that it is hardly, if ever is fully utilised by a single server. Using technologies such as Microsoft Hyper-V and VMWare, WhiteStone IT can help you move from physical servers to a virtual server environment.

Why is this beneficial to businesses? The cost of one physical server can now be used to host multiple virtual servers, saving your business money on hardware and, because they use less power, savings costs with energy bills. A virtual server environment is more flexible, scalable and reliable; and easier and quicker to recover from failure than relying on physical servers.

An on premise virtual environment can remain standalone or they can be hybridised with Microsoft’s Azure’s cloud service. When hybridised with Microsoft Azure, you gain the best of both worlds; more IT options, less complexity and cost.
